
#4 Huskies Split Wednesday Twinbill with Wayne State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The #4 St. Cloud State baseball team (22-6, 10-4 NSIC) split their midweek double header against Wayne State College on Wednesday, April 3 at Dick Putz Field. SCSU took game one 7-4, then dropped the series finale 4-1.Â
GAME 1, #4 SCSU 7 | WSC 4
The Huskies jumped out to an early 1- 0 lead and did not look back, adding one more in the second then taking a 5-0 lead in the fourth courtesy of homeruns from Mitch Mallek and Toran Shahidi. Mallek would then put SCSU up 7-1 in the fifth with his second two-run long ball of the game. The Wildcats put together a late rally with three runs on three hits in the seventh, but SCSU held on to break their first losing streak of the season.
Cal Giese (3-1) earned the victory on the hill, tossing 5 1/3 innings and only allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out two. Of note, Giese did not yield a hit or a run until the fifth inning.Â
GAME 2, #4 SCSU 1 | WSC 1
The Huskies were unable to hold a lead in game two after the Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the second, then held SCSUÂ scoreless through seven innings. WSC added one in each the sixth and eighth innings while holding off late threats from the Huskies in the seventh and eighth innings.Â
Matt Osterberg suffered his first loss of the season, giving the Huskies two innings to start before Riley Ahern provided three key relief innings to keep SCSU in the ballgame.Â
SCSUÂ returns to action on April 10 against the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM in St. Cloud, Minn.Â
