Home sweet home: Huskies host Crookston in home opener

ST. CLOUD, MINN. – There's no place in the world quite like Husky Stadium on St. Cloud State University's campus, particularly on Saturday's during football season. After a week away from the comforts of home, the St. Cloud State football team will finally make its 2019 home debut, when it hosts Minnesota-Crookston at 6 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
The Huskies have fared well in Husky Stadium over the years, particularly in their home opener. In the last five years, St. Cloud State has compiled a record of 3-2 in its home openers, with two of those losses coming against nationally ranked opponents. In fact, the Huskies opened the season in 2018 with a thrilling 14-13 win over UMary and look to do the same in 2019, this time against the Golden Eagles.

Here are the five things to know before Saturday's 6 p.m. kickoff:
RV – After a resounding 35-12 win over UMary last weekend, the Huskies did receive votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Top-25 poll. In fact, St. Cloud State was the fifth team from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) to either receive votes in the poll or actually be ranked in the top-25, as Minnesota State (No. 3), Minnesota-Duluth (No. 13), Augustana (RV) and Winona State (RV) also received votes this past week.
338 – In the past seven years, the Huskies have scored 338 points on the Golden Eagles, averaging an impressive 48.3 points per game. More impressive may be St. Cloud State's defensive play against Minnesota-Crookston. Over the past seven years, the Golden Eagles have scored just 116 points against the Huskies stingy defense, a trend St. Cloud State hopes to continue in 2019.
44 – Last season, the Huskies put up 44 points on the Golden Eagles in one of their best offensive showings of the year. St. Cloud State scored at least 10 points in every quarter, thanks in large part to a huge day from kicker Adam Stage (Appleton, Wis. / Kimberly). The then sophomore was 3-3 from field goal range, as he made field goals from 46, 23 and 47 yards out and was later named the NSIC and Division II Special Teams Player of the Week.
5 – Senior quarterback Dwayne Lawhorn (Germantown, Wis. / Germantown) made a little bit of history in last week's win over the Marauders, as he tied the program record for single-game passing touchdowns at five. Lawhorn previously set the record in 2017 when, as a freshman, he threw five passing touchdowns against NSIC rival Minnesota-Duluth.
27.0 – Minnesota-Crookston poses the biggest threat on kickoff returns, as it currently ranks fifth in the NSIC with an average of 27.0 yards gained on kickoff returns after week one. Redshirt-freshman Wyatt K. Shedrick is the main reason for the Golden Eagles high rank, as he tallied 167 yards on kickoffs along during the team's opening week game against MSU-Moorhead.
