BURNSVILLE, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team is used to playing the underdog role, In 2019-20, the Huskies took the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) by storm, winning their first NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament Title since the 2008-09 season. After a shortened 2020-21, in which St. Cloud State once again advanced to the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament Championship game, anonymity will no longer be on the team's side, as the Huskies were picked to finish second both overall and in the NSIC North Division in the Coaches Poll.Â
St. Cloud State is no stranger to success the last few seasons, with back-to-back appearances both in the conference tournament championship game and NCAA Tournament, and expects to be right in the mix for an NSIC title in 2021-22. The Huskies will look very familiar in the upcoming season, as they return every single player from their 2020-21 roster, including First Team All-Conference honoree Tori Wortz (Hutchinson, Minn. / Hutchinson) and reigning NSIC Defensive Player of the Year Brehna Evans (De Pere, Wis. / West De Pere). In addition to Wortz, three other seniors, Nikki Kilboten (Eau Claire, Wis. / Eau Claire), Erin Navratil (Albany, Minn. / Albany) and Caitlyn Peterson (Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville South), opted to return for their extra season after leading St. Cloud State to its second consecutive NCAA tournament appearance in 2020-21. With depth and experience on their side, the Huskies are once again expected to finish toward the top of the NSIC standings, as they were projected to finish second both overall and in the NSIC North standings.Â
