Gentry’s OT winner sends Huskies past Beavers in home exhibition

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Sophomore forward Emma Gentry scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead St. Cloud State Women's Hockey past Bemidji State by a 2-1 final on Saturday afternoon. Tuning up ahead of the regular season, SCSU outshot the Beavers 28-25 and piled up a whopping 24 blocks in the exhibition. Following 40 minutes of scoreless hockey, Jenniina Nylund scored just under a minute in to the third period with a strong wrister from the slot. Bemidji State tied things up two minutes later before the Huskies settled back in defensively. Karlie Ries earned the win, recording 10 saves on 11 shots.

TURNING POINT

With 1:38 to go in overtime, Adela Skrdlova moved the puck to an uncovered Emma Gentry on the right point. The Huskies' sophomore fired a ringing shot past the BSU tender's shoulder, giving SCSU the OT victory.

TOP HUSKIES

• Emma Gentry led all players with two points (1 G, 1 A) and finished plus-one.
• Adela Skrdlova, Courtney Hall and Gentry each tallied an assist.
• Along with her goal, Jenniina Nylund led both teams with seven shots on goal.
• Dayle Ross, Taytum Geier and Courtney Hall each blocked three shots to lead SCSU.
• Sanni Ahola recorded 11 saves in a scoreless second period.

UP NEXT

St. Cloud State begins the regular season on Friday, October 1 with a 6:00 p.m. CST start against Lindenwood at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. SCSU's season opener against the Lions will feature a schedule poster giveaway for the first 100 fans in attendance, while the weekend finale is a Youth Night with free admission for children ages 13 and under.
