Rachel (16 K/17 D) and Foley (15 K/20 D) double-double as SCSU earns 20th win of 2022
MOORHEAD, Minn. – Outside hitters Linsey Rachel and Kenzie Foley each posted impressive double-doubles as No. 7 St. Cloud State handled MSU-Moorhead in four sets at Nemzek Fieldhouse on Friday evening.
Rachel hit .297 with 16 kills and 17 digs while Kenzie Foley provided a 15-kill, 20-dig double-double. Phebie Rossi added 10 kills on .308 hitting along with six blocks.
Keely Kurschner dug out 20 swings to anchor a defense that held the Dragons to hit just .109 and Sam Zimmerman enjoyed a nine-kill effort in her return home to Moorhead. SCSU's 73 digs on the night matched their third-highest effort of the year, leaning on their defense to close out the win.
Turning Point
Leading two sets to one entering the fourth, St. Cloud State held MSUM to nine kills and forced them into seven errors for a .054 hitting percentage.
Quotables – St. Cloud State head coach Chad Braegelmann
"I'm happy with our performance overall. The third set got away from us defensively and errors didn't help. We were terminal when we needed to be, and I was pleased with our effort blocking. Our serve-and-pass was strong as well, I felt we were in system throughout the match."
"I think our blockers made them extremely uncomfortable early on, we did a great job of digging their swings when they got through. Our block and defense worked together extremely well throughout the night."
"We spoke about playing with a bit of swagger and having confidence on the floor. We have a fair amount of key players this season who hadn't had a ton of action in years past – their experience this season has helped build their confidence. I'm excited to see what this group can do as we head down the stretch run."
