ST. CLOUD, MINN. - It's back on the road for the St. Cloud State University men's basketball team. After a weekend at home, the Huskies will travel to North Dakota to face Minot State and UMary in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play.Â
St. Cloud State will take on the Beavers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 11 before traveling to Bismarck, North Dakota for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff against the Marauders. Live stats and video will be available for both games, and fans can tune in to JW Cox' radio call on the Varsity Network App. Score updates will be posted to the team's Twitter account (@SCSUHUSKIES_MBB).Â
Here are the five things to know before this weekend's tipoff:
19.7 - With the absence of Anthony Roberts (Chicago, Ill. / Oak Park) last weekend, Matthew Willert (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) stepped up and put together a career week for St. Cloud State. In three games, the sophomore averaged a team-leading 19.7 points, scoring 20+ points against both Minnesota State and MSU-Moorhead. In the loss to the Dragon, Willert scored a career-high 27 points while shooting .500 from the floor and went 11-13 from the free throw line.
19/10 - Willert wasn't the only Husky to set a career-high last weekend. Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis. / Germantown) tallied the first double-double of his career at St. Cloud State, scoring a career-high 19 points and pulling in a career-high 10 rebounds in Tuesday's loss to the Mavericks. Taylor additionally scored 10 points in the loss to Northern State on Friday.Â
19 - Not to be outdone, Cameron Alexander (Hazelhurst, Miss. / Hazelhurst) set career highs in the Huskies loss to Northern State, as he spearheaded St. Cloud State's comeback with 12 points in the first half alone. The senior guard ended the game with a career-high 19 and additionally played a career-high 23 minutes in the loss.Â
38:13 - Roberts is projected to be in the Huskies line up this weekend and is expected to play as many minutes as he was before. Prior to last weekend, the junior played an average of 38:13 minutes a game and was rarely subbed out in the second half. Even missing last weekend, Roberts still leads the NSIC in minutes per game and ranks third in Division II in the same category.Â
.765 - St. Cloud State's free throw shooting has been a constant topic of conversation for many years, and not necessarily in a good way. It was considered one of the Huskies biggest weaknesses heading into the 2021-22 season. However, fans will be pleasantly surprised to learn that St. Cloud State is one of the best free throw shooting teams in the NSIC this year, as the Huskies rank top-5 in the conference in free throw attempts, free throws made and free-throw shooting percentage.
