Bats go cold in Huskies loss to Griffons

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – St. Cloud State Baseball saw their lineup quieted in a 18-1 Friday afternoon loss to Missouri Western State, collecting just five hits while the Griffons got to the pitching staff early. Missouri Western plated five in the third after scoring once in the second, chasing Huskies starter Ryan Duffy after two-plus. The Griffons tacked on two more in the fifth and sixth before back-to-back doubles by Sam Riola (2-for-4, R, 2B) and Paul Steffensen (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) gave SCSU their first and only run of the game in the home half of six. MWSU added eight in the ninth, putting the game even further out of hand.
KEY MOMENT
Missouri Western scored five runs – just two of which were earned – to open up a 6-0 lead, then starter Jordan Akins cruised the rest of the way by going 6.0 scoreless frames of five-hit, one-walk, one-run baseball.
TOP HUSKIES
• Sam Riola had his first Huskies multi-hit game by going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
• Paul Steffensen went 1-for-4 with an RBI double.
• Ethan Lanthier (1.0 IP, 2 BB, K) and Owen Anderson (1.0 IP, H, BB, K) each worked scoreless frames in their collegiate debuts.

• The Griffons pounded out 20 hits and drew nine walks.
