INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team has established itself as one of the best teams, not just in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) this season, but in all of Division II as well. On Wednesday, the Huskies once found themselves ranked amongst the top teams in the Central Region, as they were ranked second in the initial regional rankings.Â
St. Cloud State was one of three teams for the NSIC ranked Wednesday afternoon, joining rival Minnesota-Duluth (No. 3) and Minnesota State (No. 8) in the Central Region's top-10. The No. 2 regional ranking is the highest the Huskies have received in the past three seasons, as they were the highest ranked team from the NSIC this week.Â
The NCAA Central Region is made up of 39 teams from the NSIC, Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) and Great American Conference GAC). The top eight teams from the region will advance to the NCAA Regional Tournament, which will take place March 9-13 at a yet to be announced location. Automatic bids to the tournament will be awarded to the winners of the NSIC, MIAA and GAC conference tournaments, and the five remaining seeds will be awarded on an at-large basis.Â
St. Cloud State will return to action Thursday evening when the team hosts Minnesota-Crookston at 5:30 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall.
