SHIMON GETS THE SPOTLIGHT ON SATURDAY
Setter Allena Shimon is the only graduating senior on this year's roster so she will get Senior Day all to herself on Saturday. The Des Moines, Iowa native has appeared in 42 matches and 102 sets, making ten starts in her three-year career. She lost her freshman season as the Huskies did not hold a fall season in 2020 due to the pandemic. Shimon has produced 163 assists, 134 digs and 21 service aces in her career, setting single-season career-highs already this year in matches played, matches started, sets played, service aces, and digs. Shimon was named the team's Practice Player of the Year in 2022. She has been on teams with a combined overall record of 72-17 (.809) and a conference record of 44-10 (.815). She has been a part of one regular season championship team and two teams that won the NSIC Tournament. Last year, she was a part of the team who advanced to the Sweet 16 after upsetting No. 4 seed Northwest Missouri State and No. 1 seed Wayne State.
LET'S GO POLLING
The Huskies remained at No. 9 in the week nine AVCA Top-25 poll. St. Cloud State has spent 28 weeks in the Top 10 under head coach Chad Braegelmann.
HOME SWEET HALENBECK
SCSU Volleyball has enjoyed tremendous success in the friendly confines of Halenbeck Hall, going 38-8 (.826) at home since 2019 while winning 41 of its last 48 home matches.
1,000 DIG CLUB
Senior outside hitter Kenzie Foley (Sergeant Bluffs, Iowa) became the 11th player in program history to record 1,000 career digs in Saturday's match at Winona State.
LAST TIME OUT
The No. 9 Huskies (17-6, 10-4 NSIC) picked up a win in their lone match of the weekend last Saturday in Winona after going back-and-forth with Winona State (16-7, 8-6 NSIC). SCSU wound up with a five-set victory after both teams traded sets. Three of the first four were decided by four points or less before and then the Huskies took control in the final set to come away with the 3-2 win, taking the match, 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-9.
Freshman middle blocker Hannah Bruskiewicz (Rogers, Minn.) and senior outside hitter Kenzie Foley (Sergeant Bluffs, Iowa) led the offensive attack for the Huskies, tallying 15 kills each while hitting .367 and .123, respectively. Sophomore setter Emma Berran (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) provided 43 assists and two aces in the match. Foley added 22 digs to lead the Huskies, recording her seventh consecutive double-double and 15th overall this season. She also notched her 1,000th career dig in the match.
NAVIGATING THE NORTHERN SUN
The Huskies are 59-15 in league play dating back to 2019 and earned the 2021 NSIC Regular Season Championship with a 19-1 campaign, adding two 15-win seasons in that span while establishing themselves as a true power in the Northern Sun. Over that span, eleven of SCSU's 15 losses have been at the hands of ranked teams - speaking to the strength of the ever-competitive NSIC. SCSU has finished .500 or better in conference play for four straight seasons and have earned a top five finish in three consecutive campaigns.
DYNAMIC DEFENSE
The Huskies' defense has been nothing short of incredible through their first 23 matches of 2023, limiting opponents to just 10.67 kills/set on .169 hitting and a .323 kill percentage. SCSU has allowed the second fewest kills/set in the Northern Sun while boasting the No. 6 hitting percentage defense in the league, adding the ninth-most digs across the conference at 14.88 a set. In conference play the Huskies boast the No. 2 opponent kills defense (10.88/set), the No. 7 hitting percentage defense (.174) and the No. 4 serve receive (1.12 opp. aces/set).
EXPLOSIVE OFFENSE
St. Cloud State enters week nine with one of the most terminal offenses in all of NCAA DII Volleyball, sending down 14.20 kills per set on .240 hitting while boasting an incredible .404 kill percentage. The club's K/S mark ranks ninth in the nation while their hitting percentage is No. 35 across the NCAA. SCSU's current kills per set and kill percentage marks would both be the program's highest since the Huskies produced respective marks of 14.78 in 2003 under Patricia Mickow and .422 in 1998 under Dianna Glowatzke. The Huskies lead the conference in service aces/set (1.83) and total service aces (148), are second-best in kills/set (14.20) and third best in assists/set (13.11). The team ranks 11th in the nation with 13.11 assists/set. Individually, two Huskies are ranked in the top five in the nation for a statistical category – Foley is 2nd in points/set (5.44) and 3rd in kills/set (4.86) while Berran is 5th in assists/set (11.40).
