Four Huskies; Brand, Luedtke, Rosborough, Ziemer earn Distinguished Scholar Athlete distinction
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – St. Cloud State Men's Hockey had nine student-athletes earn National Collegiate Hockey Conference Academic All-Conference Honors, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. In addition, four student athletes from SCSU earned the mark of Distinguished Scholar Athlete. The Huskies helped contribute to 117 Academic All-Conference and 62 Distinguished Scholar Athletes league-wide for the 2022-23 season.
St. Cloud State's recipients for Academic All-Conference honors were senior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland), senior defenseman Spencer Meier (Sartell, Minn.), senior forward Micah Miller (Grand Rapids, Minn.), junior forward Joe Molenaar (Minnetonka, Minn.) and senior defenseman Ondrej Trejbal (Hamry Nad Sazavou, Czech Republic), while senior forward Chase Brand (Park Rapids, Minn.), sophomore defenseman Josh Luedtke (Minnetonka, Minn.), redshirt freshman forward Ryan Rosborough (Mt. Brydges, Ontario) and junior Brady Ziemer (Carver, Minn.) earned Distinguished Scholar Athlete honors in addition to their Academic All-Conference honors.
Meier and Miller earned Academic all-conference honors for the fifth straight season, while Brand earned the honor for the fourth time. Earning their second career honor was Luedtke, Rosborough and Ziemer while Krannila and Meier earned the honor for the first time in their career.
To be eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must compile a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average or better, while having completed at least one full academic year at his current institution. Student-athletes that have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better are honored as NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, in addition to Academic All-Conference.
While freshmen and first-year transfers, including graduate transfers, are not currently eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team or Distinguished Scholar-Athlete recognition (due to not having a full year at their current school), those freshmen and transfers that achieve a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better at the conclusion of the 2022-23 academic year will be added to the Academic All-Conference Team over the summer. Similarly, any freshmen or transfers who compile a 3.5 GPA or better will be named an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.
The 2022-23 NCHC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, chosen from senior Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, will be announced at the annual NCHC Awards Celebration, which will be held on Thursday, March 16 in Saint Paul, Minn. NCHC All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams, along with NCHC individual award finalists, will be announced the week prior from March 7-9.
