
St. Cloud State Tennis defeated by UMary 2-5

Virginia, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Tennis (1-3, 0-3 NSIC) were defeated by University of Mary (3-0, 2-0 NSIC) 5-2 Sunday morning. UMary earned the doubles point with a sweep of all three matches and the Huskies were only able to win two of the six singles matches.

Doubles
St. Cloud State dropped the doubles point, falling in all three matches. In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Maria Paz Aoki (Marcos Paz, Argentina) and sophomore Claudia Muñoz Perez (Tarragona, Spain) suffered a 2-6 defeat. The duo now sits at 2-2 on the year playing in the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Johana Brower (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and freshman Oriana Grott (Warsaw, Poland) lost 3-6 in the No. 2 spot falling to Hala Hossman Awad and reigning NSIC player of the week Doaa Farouk Mohamed. In the No. 3 spot, senior Olivia Fredrickson (Fridley, Minn.) and sophomore Maria Molitor (Delano, Minn.) were taken down by Emily Needham and Samantha Purpura 2-6. For the second straight match, the Huskies have been unable to earn the doubles point and are 0-2 on the year when they do not win the point. Â

In Singles play, the Huskies were defeated in four of the six matches. Brower recorded a clean sweep in the No. 5 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Brower now moves to 3-1 on the year in singles play after winning back to back matches in straight sets. Molitor put the other point on the board for the Huskies as she won 6-3 in the No. 6 spot. Molitor also holds a record of 3-1 in singles play this year and has exceeded her win total from last year.
