St. Cloud State Men’s Basketball Overpowered by No. 5 Minnesota State

Huskies shoot just 36% from the field in 88-67 road loss
MANKATO, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (8-11 overall, 4-9 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) couldn't get its offense into a rhythm on Friday night, falling to No. 5 Minnesota State, 88-67 at the Taylor Center.
The Mavericks (18-1, 12-1 NSIC) never trailed in the game and lead by as many as 20 points in the first half and 27 in the second. MSU made 11 more field goals than the Huskies and held a 50-30 advantage on the glass. SCSU had two players score in double figures and Minnesota State had four.

The Huskies travel to play Winona State tomorrow (Saturday, January 27). The game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. from McCown Gymnasium in Winona. - Freshman Nate Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) scored 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting including 2-of-3 from three-point land in just 18 minutes off the bench.
- Freshman Jamiir Allen (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 10 points and nabbed two steals in just 18 minutes off the bench. He went 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
- Junior Dom Aguilar (Fergus Falls, Minn.) scored eight points on 3-of-4 shooting including 2-of-3 from three in just eight minutes off the bench.
- The Huskies are now 98-92 all-time against Minnesota State after the loss.
- SCSU led the game in three pointers (11-10), steals (7-4), points off turnovers (15-7), fast break points (3-2) and bench points (43-34).
- MSU led the game in field goal percentage (51.5%-36.4%), three-point percentage (50.0%-32.4%), free-throw percentage (72.7%-57.1%), field goals (35-24), total rebounds (14-36—50 – 9-21—30), assists (20-13), blocks (6-1), points in the paint (34-22) and second chance points (14-10)
- Both teams made eight free throws.
- Nate Dahl tied career-highs in field goals (four), three pointers (two) and three-point attempts (three). He has scored 10+ points twice times and made 2+ threes twice.
- Allen made a career-high five free throws and tied his career high for free throw attempts (six). He has scored 10+ points in 11 games this season including the last 10 in a row.
- Aguilar tied season-highs in points (eight), field goals (three), three pointers (two) and assists (one). Has scored eight points and made multiple threes twice this season.
- Freshman Anish Ramlall (Rosemount, Minn.) scored six points. He has made 2+ three pointers in 11 games
- Graduate student Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis.) scored six points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field. He has scored 6+ points in all but one game this season.
- Freshman Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia) scored 6 points and tallied two steals. He has scored 6+ points in all but one game this season.
- Sophomore Andre Renta (Hudson, Wis.) scored five points and dished out three assists in 11 minutes off the bench. He tied his career high in free throw attempts (six). He has scored 5+ points in seven games this year and made 3+ free throws in three games.
- Senior Joe Mutimer (Melbourne, Australia) scored three points, also dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds. He tied his season-high making two three-pointers. He has scored 3+ points in all but two games this year. He has tallied 4+ assists in seven games. He has grabbed 3+ rebounds in six games.
- Freshman Wyatt Hawks (White Bear Lake, Minn.) grabbed a team-high five rebounds. He has grabbed 5+ rebounds in 10 games this season including five of the last six and seven of the last nine.
- Senior Matt Willert (Buffalo, Minn.) grabbed four rebounds. He has grabbed 4+ points in eight games this season.
