
Guerra-Reese Wins 600 Meters, Three Huskies Set Personal Bests Over the Weekend

Mariana Guerra-Reese wins the 600 meters as SCSU establishes three new personal bests at St. Olaf and Minnesota
NORTHFIELD, Minn. / MINNEAPOLIS – St. Cloud State Track & Field competed in the St. Olaf Invitational at the Tostrud Center in Northfield on Friday and the Jack Johnson Classic at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse in Minneapolis on Saturday, coming away with one event win, two season bests and three personal bests.
Junior distance runner Cambrie Kowal (Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.) ran to a personal best in the 5,000-meter run (19:03.64) on Friday night at St. Olaf, cutting 15 seconds of her previous best time from last outdoor season and 37 second off her previous best indoor time.
On Saturday, fifth-year distance runner Mariana Guerra-Reese (White Bear Lake, Minn.) won the 600-meter run, in a new personal best time of 1:37.39. She beat four Division I athletes in the race. Junior middle distance runner Makaylin Christenson (Prairie Farm, Wis.) made her debut in the event running 1:43.02. Junior hurdler Shelby Romig (Ankeny, Iowa) placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles after running a season-best time of 9.43. Senior sprinter Katie Lavato (Buffalo, Minn.) ran identical times (7.92) in the 60-meter dash prelims and finals, placing third and fifth respectively in each. Senior distance runner Erica Conrad (Ashwaubenon, Wis.) clocked a season best in the 3,000-meter run (11:25.56) while freshmen Paige Beason (Ankeny, Iowa) and Tegan Michalak (Arcadia, Wis.) made their collegiate debut in the distance running 11:15.10 and 11:53.16 respectively. Freshman jumper/thrower Savannah Reinke (Carrollton, Mo.) recorded a new personal best in the weight throw (9.65m/31-8).

The Huskies are idle next week and will compete the following week at the Maverick Premier #1 hosted by Minnesota State on Friday, February 9 at Myers Field House in Mankato, Minn.
