Huskies go 4-4 on penalty kill, fail to score in tightly contested game
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 13 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (3-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) couldn't breakthrough on offense in its first setback of the season, falling 3-0, to No. 10/9 Michigan on Friday evening in Ann Arbor, Mich. Neither team scored in the game's first two periods, but then the Wolverines scored three times in the third period to take the first game of the series.
Michigan broke through first in the third period on a shorthanded breakaway, with Garrett Schifsky scoring at the 4:26 mark of the period. Michigan added a goal in a four-on-four situation and an empty netter later in the period to cap the scoring at 3-0.

- Sophomore goaltender Isak Posch (Umea, Sweden) made 27 saves in the game and helped turn away four Michigan power plays.
- Freshman forward Austin Burnevik (Ham Lake, Minn.) led the team in shots on goal with four.
- Junior defenseman Josh Zinger (Red Deer, Alberta) had a team-high three blocks.
- With the loss, SCSU moves to 0-4-1 all-time against Michigan and 0-2-0 in Ann Arbor.
- SCSU went 4-of-4 on the penalty kill, improving to 92.9 percent (13-of-14) on the season. It marked the third time in four games SCSU has held its opponent scoreless with a man down.
- Sophomore forward Verner Miettinen (Espoo, Finland) continued his impressive start in the faceoff dot, going 9-5 in the circle (64.3 percent) in the game.
- For the season, Miettinen is 69.3 percent (52-23) in the faceoff dot.
- Posch made 27 saves, the third time this season and 11th time in his career he has made 25 or more saves.
- Zinger recorded a season-best with three blocks.
