Colin Ralph taken in second round, Tanner Henricks in fifth round and Austin Burnevik in sixth round
LAS VEGAS – St. Cloud State Men's Hockey had three athletes selected in the 2024 NHL Draft on Saturday in Las Vegas. Incoming freshmen Colin Ralph (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Austin Burnevik (Ham Lake, Minn.) were joined by future Husky Tanner Henricks (Mission Viejo, Calif.) to become the 72nd, 73rd and 74th SCSU draft picks since the inauguration of the NHL Draft in 1986. SCSU's three draft picks marks the 11th time three or more Huskies have been selected in the draft.
Ralph was the first Husky to come off the board when he was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the second round (48th overall), as he became the seventh highest draft pick in program history and just the eighth Husky to be selected in the first or second round. Ralph will join SCSU this season after two standout seasons with Shattuck St. Mary's where he scored 10 goals and 91 assists for 111 points in 111 games in the USHS-Prep league over the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. This past season, Ralph's 58 assists led all defensemen and ranked third overall in the USHS-prep league while his 66 points ranked second among defensemen and 19th overall. Following his 2023-24 campaign, Ralph played two games with Dubuque of the USHL. He is the third Husky to be drafted by the Blues, joining Bret Hedican (1988, 10th round, 198th overall) and Jonathan Lehun (2003, sixth round, 189th overall).
Burnevik was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the sixth round with the 182nd pick overall. He will join St. Cloud State for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign after a highly successful season in junior hockey with USHL's Madison Capitols in 2023-24. In Wisconsin's capitol city, Burnevik earned All-USHL Third Team honors after scoring 40 goals and 31 assists for 71 points with a +21 mark on the ice in 61 games. He ranked in the USHL's top-10 in numerous offensive categories, including second in goals (40), seventh in points (71) and seventh in power play goals (11). Prior to his time in Madison, Burnevik spent two seasons with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP) where he played with the U17, U18 and Juniors teams, totaling 34 goals and 42 assists for 76 points. Prior to his time with the NTDP, the Ham Lake, Minn., native played two seasons at Totino-Grace High School (2019-21) where he scored 33 goals and 35 assists for 68 points in 44 games. He is the second Husky to be drafted by the Ducks, following Matt Cullen (1996, second round, 35th overall).
Future Husky blue liner Tanner Henricks, a Mission Viejo, Calif., native was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fourth round with the 101st pick overall. Henricks played prep hockey for Shattuck St. Mary's (2020-22) and Anaheim Junior Ducks (2022-23) before joining the Lincoln Stars of the USHL for this past season (2023-24). With the Stars, Henricks recorded nine assists for nine points in 59 games. He is first SCSU athlete to be drafted by the Blue Jackets.
Ralph and Burnevik's draft selections give the Huskies six NHL draft picks on its 2024-25 roster, as they join Adam Ingram (Nashville / 2022 third round), Daimon Gardner (Vancouver / 2022 fourth round), Barrett Hall (Seattle / 2022 sixth round) and Warren Clark (Tampa Bay / 2023 sixth round).
