Defense Smothers in Huskies 66-41 Win Over Winona State

Warriors shoot 21% from the field
Winona, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (10-6, 7-4 NSIC) picked up their 10th win of the season after beating Winona State 66-41 Friday evening. Through the first five minutes of the game, Winona State narrowly held a 9-6 advantage after Olivia Gamoke made a three-pointer to break the tie. St. Cloud State started to take control as they held the Warriors scoreless over the next four minuets to now lead 15-9 after a 9-0. The Huskies added some fireworks to the end of the first quarter as Paige Lambe swished a turn around jumper to beat the buzzer. St. Cloud State would lead 17-11 after the buzzer beater by Lambe. The Huskies held a steady lead throughout most of the second quarter, but free throws by Winona State cut SCSU's lead down to three points. With 2:16 left in the second quarter, scored the next four points as the lead went back up to seven. Kylan Gerads expanded that lead to nine following an offensive rebound and putback. The Huskies would lead 29-20 going into halftime after holding Winona State to a mere 19% from the field in the half. Winona State opened the second half with some energy as a 4-0 run got the lead down to five. From that point, St. Cloud State started to take control as Jada Eggebrecht capped off a 14-2 run for the Huskies by drilling a three-pointer. SCSU led by 17 points with 4:36 left in the third quarter but kept pouring it on the Warriors as Eggebrecht splashed another three with 22 seconds left to extend the lead to 22 points. The fourth quarter saw the Huskies lead by 21+ points throughout as they came away with a 66-41 victory against Winona State. The Warriors scored less than 11 points in every quarter and shot 21% from the field in the game.
