
Offense Explodes for St. Cloud State Baseball to Finish Series Sweep of Northern State

Huskies outscore Wolves 24-6 in doubleheader sweep
MAPLE GROVE, Minn. – St. Cloud State Baseball (15-15, 11-9 NSIC) scored 10+ runs in both games of a doubleheader sweep and finished off a four-game series sweep of Northern State (5-22, 1-19 NSIC) on Sunday at Gleasons Fields in Maple Grove, Minn. SCSU scored 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to finish off an 11-4 win in the first game before scoring 11 runs in the first four innings of a 13-2 win in the second game.
GAME 1 – SCSU 11, NSU 4
SCSU scored first in the first inning when junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) walked with the bases loaded to take a 1-0 lead but then were left off the scoreboard for the next three innings. Redshirt junior Brady Nelson (Oro Valley, Ariz.) took the mound for the Huskies and lasted 5.2 innings before being chased away in the sixth. He left the game allowing four earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts while being in line for his fifth win of the season.
The Huskies' offense was powered by a six-run rally in the fifth inning, which broke the game open after a tight 2-1 deficit. Senior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) led the charge with a three-run home run, while redshirt freshman Jonathan Pribula (Plymouth, Minn.) added a two-run shot to extend the lead further. The team's offensive surge continued into the sixth inning, highlighted by a series of timely hits and errors by Northern State. Sophomore Wilmis Castro's (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) double and redshirt freshman Reid Tigges' (Spencer, Iowa) RBI fielder's choice were key plays in the Huskies' four-run inning.

In the second game, the Huskies were explosive early, taking a 4-2 lead in the second inning thanks to key hits from Navratil, who contributed a run-scoring single, and Tweet, who doubled in a run. St. Cloud State then exploded offensively in the third inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run homer from Moreno and an RBI single from Navratil. By the fourth inning, SCSU's lead extended to 11-2. Junior Taeyhung Kim (Marana, Ariz.) continued his impressive weekend at the plate, recording three hits and two walks while scoring four runs.
The Huskies' pitching was just as dominant, with starter Christian Lessman leading the charge. The pitching staff combined for a strong performance, allowing only three hits and two runs over the course of the game.

- Kim's four runs scored were the most by a Husky this season.
- Moreno and Konkol each hit their fifth home runs of the season, tying Navratil for the team lead.
