Nine With Ties to SCSU Women’s Hockey Named to 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship Rosters

Five current Huskies, four alumnae set to compete for their respective home nations at the World Championship April 9-20 in Ceské Budejovice, Czechia
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Five current St. Cloud State Women's Hockey players and four alumnae have been named to their respective national team rosters ahead of the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championship. The tournament is set for April 9-20 and will be held in Budvar Arena in České Budějovice, Czechia.
The preliminary round will go from April 9-15. Following that, quarterfinal games will take place on Thursday, April 17, followed by the semifinals on Saturday, April 19. The medal matches will be played on Sunday, April 20.
Fans can follow the action on the IIHF schedule page with live stats in addition to streaming via the NHL Network (U.S.) or TSN and RDS (Canada). Around the world, the tournament is also available to live stream and stream on demand on the IIHF's own IIHF TV platform. Restrictions may apply.
A total of 119 players with NCAA ties are expected to compete in the tournament, including 40 student-athletes who are current NCAA players or committed for the 2025-26 season. Thirty-four different NCAA schools will be represented during the tournament. Wisconsin leads with 15 current, former or committed players, followed by Ohio State (13), Minnesota (12) and St. Cloud State (nine).

FINLAND
The largest contingent of Huskies – three current players and two alumnae, will be suiting up for Team Finland. Freshman goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland), sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) and freshman defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) will be joined by goaltender Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland), who played for the Huskies from 2020-25 and former alternate captain, forward Jenniina Nylund (Pietarsaari, Finland) who wore the red and black from 2018-23.
Kyrkkö has played in one U18 Junior World Championship (2022) and one World Championship (2023), Sundelin has played in two World Juniors (2019, 20) and four World Championships (2021, 22, 23, 24), Yrjölä has played in two WJC (2020, 22) and one World Championship (2024), Ahola has played in two World Juniors (2017, 18) and two World Chammpionships (2023, 24) and Nylund has experience in two WJC (2016, 17) and four World Championships (2021, 22, 23, 24).
Past medalists include Nylund and Sundelin who each have two bronze medals (2021, 24) and Ahola and Yrjölä who each were on the bronze medal team in 2024.
Most recently, all five competed for Finland at the 2024 Six Nations Tournament in Tampere, Finland, where the team placed fourth.

GERMANY
Junior forward Svenja Voigt (Cologne, Germany) and former alternate captain, forward Laura Kluge (Berlin, Germany) who wore a Huskies sweater from 2017-21 have been named to Team Germany. Voigt has played in two U18 Junior World Championships (2020, 22) and three World Championships (2021, 23, 24), while Kluge has played in three WJC (2012, 13, 14) and eight World Championships (2015, 16, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24).
The duo most recently helped the Germany qualify for Milano Cortina (2026 Winter Olympics) with a 2-1 win over Hungary on February 9.

She has experience in three World Junior Championships (2015, 16, 17) and eight World Championships (2015, 16, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24). She won back-to-back bronze medals in 2022 and 2023.
