Davenport Recap
The Huskies and Panthers got off to a slow start offensively with just one shot on goal between the two teams, the one came from Johan Lopez in the 12th minute. Entering the 2nd half, Davenport made a quick charge drawing a corner kick, but nothing came out of it for them. It was a pure defensive battle till the 73rd minute when Andrés García had a gorgeous look at the net but missed over the top of the keeper.
The turning point came almost immediately after the García try, when King Dwumah Acheampong had one man to beat, but the Panther keeper, Carter McGowen, came charging outside of the box to punch the ball away. McGowen would receive a red card for touching the ball with his hands outside of the box, leaving Davenport with 10 men. The Huskies would capitalize on their extra man advantage, as Acheampong scored the game winning goal off the rebound from Kingsley Kanu to give the Huskies a 1-0 advantage in the 86th minute. Davenport fought hard to equalize the game in the final minutes, but Panther midfielder Archie Oliver, drew the second red card of the game for Davenport, putting them down to just nine men for the final two minutes. The Huskies eventually earned their first GLIAC victory of the season.
The Huskies defense proved to be an enormous difference maker in the game, as they kept Davenport from tallying a single shot on goal, helping Erik Willke tally his second clean sheet of the season.
Saginaw Valley State Recap
The Huskies got off to a promising start, as Kingsley Kanu almost got things going SCSU's way in the 9th minute, firing a shot off the crossbar. The rest of the first half would prove to be a defensive battle, as Erik Willke saved four, and both teams went to the locker room scoreless.
The second half was all Saginaw Valley State, as they scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Huskies 4-0. Huskies tallied just one shot on goal for the entire game to the Cardinals 10. Kanu proved to be the biggest offensive threat for the Huskies in this game, tallying three shots and the only shot on goal.
