Jessica Benson Scores her 1,000th Career Point
Benson Scores 1,000th Career Point in Huskies Loss to U-Mary, 80-86

Bismarck, N.D. -- The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team traveled to Bismarck, N.D. to take on the Marauders of the University of Mary in Friday night Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) basketball action. The Huskies fell to the University of Mary with a final score of 80-86.
After seven lead changes and two tied scores in the first half, the Huskies entered halftime with a five-point deficit (23-28). The Marauders shot an unbelievable 61.5% from the field in the second half to defeat the Huskies by six in final scoring.
St. Cloud State drops to 9-6 overall and 5-6 in the NSIC. The University of Mary improves to 8-6 overall and 6-5 in conference action.
Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) reached a milestone this evening as she surpassed the 1,000-career point mark. Benson led all players in tonight's match-up as she went nine of 19 from the field and made five of five shots from the line to finish with 23 points. Benson has now totaled 1,002 career points and became just the 28th player in St. Cloud State women's basketball history to reach 1,000 points. Benson joins teammate Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.) who reached 1,000 points earlier this season (12/14/13). Benson grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to secure her tenth double-double of the season.
Three additional Huskies scored in double-figures this evening. Rachael Moen (Savage) went four of nine from the field and made all eight free throw attempts to score 17 points. Sam Price added 12 points and Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) finished with 11 on five of seven shooting from the field.
The Huskies shot 41.3% from the field, but it wasn't quite enough as U-Mary finished with a 57.1% final field goal percentage.
The Marauders won the rebounding battle, 38-31.
Five players from the University of Mary scored in double-figures led by Linda Murray who finished with 22 points. U-Mary scored 52 of their points in the paint.
The Huskies will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Minot State University for a 4 p.m. match-up against the Beavers. Fans can follow the Huskies live on-line and on the air all weekend. KYES Radio 1180 AM will carry the games with JW Cox calling the action.
