Women's Basketball Splits Road Series, Defeats Minot State 86-73

Minot, N.D. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team matched up against Minot State University in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action Saturday evening. The Huskies defeated the Beavers 86-73 in final scoring at the Minot State Dome.
St. Cloud State went on a roll in the first half aided by defensive stops in the Huskies zone defense resulting in a 13-0 offensive run. The Huskies went 20 of 38 from the field (53%) to lead Minot State 53-35 at the half.
St. Cloud State kept the momentum going at the start of the second as they continued to build their lead. The Huskies took their largest lead of the game at the 13:13 mark in the second half when they went up 74-41 after a layup by Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.). The Beavers didn't give up early as they cut the lead to 13 within the final minutes of play.
The Huskies improve to 10-6 overall and 6-6 in the NSIC. Minot State falls to 12-4 overall and 8-4 in conference action.
Karissa LeCaptain had a career night as she finished with a season and career-high 13 points and seven rebounds. LeCaptain shot six of eight from the field.
Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.) led the Huskies with 15 points. Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) and Rachael Moen (Savage) each finished with 14. Benson and Price each grabbed four steals on the night. Benson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Carley Jeffery (Cambridge, Wis.) was the final Husky to reach double-figures as she finished with 10 points and dished out three assists.
Freshman guard Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) had a team-high five assists. Nooker also made four of four free throw attempts and tallied three steals.
The Huskies shot 49.3% from the field and outrebounded Minot State 38-26.
Minot State shot 55% in the game, but finished with 13 less shot attempts.
Carly Boag led the Beavers with 26 points on 13 of 15 shooting from the field.
St. Cloud State will return to action on Jan. 24 and 25 as they host Northern State University (14-2 overall, 10-2 NSIC) and Minnesota State University Moorhead (9-7 overall, 5-7 NSIC) in Halenbeck Hall next weekend.
