Strong second half propels Huskies to 45-24 road win over Minnesota Crookston

Crookston, Minn. – St. Cloud State scored 28 second half points and posted its first road win of the season with a 45-24 victory over the University of Minnesota Crookston in an NSIC North Division game on Saturday.

St. Cloud State is 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC North. Minnesota Crookston is 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the North division. The Huskies will play host to #4 University of Minnesota Duluth next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Husky Stadium.

Three Huskies, quarterback Nate Meyer and runningbacks Ledell White and Kenneth Walker rushed for over 100 yards in the game. It marked the first time since the 2012 season that at least two Huskies rushed for 100 yards in the same game. The last two players to accomplish the feat were White and Michael Walker on Nov. 3, 2012 against Minot State.

Minnesota Crookston jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter scoring on their first two possessions of the game, the first a 43-yard Mike Maw field goal and again on a 66-yard pass completion from quarterback Ben Bucholz to Marcus Cheatham.

The Huskies rattled off 17 straight points to take a 17-10 lead with just under seven minutes to play in the first half. Bucholz connected with Adam Connette on a 10-yard pass play to tie the game and then with :14 seconds left in the half, Dre Person scored on a one-yard run and UMC held a 24-17 lead at the half.

The second half belonged to the Huskies as they scored four times and gained 279 yards on the ground.

Huskies Highlights

Meyer rushed 11 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed ten of 20 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
Walker rushed for a career high 145 yards on 20 carries and scored one touchdown on a 20 yard run. He finished the game with 252 yards of total offense including 93 kick return yards.
White gained 129 yards on 22 carries and ran for one touchdown. He also caught a 39-yard pass for a touchdown.
Three Huskies receivers, Taylor Berger, Matt Hentges and Walker each had two catches in the game. Berger had a 19-yard touchdown reception.
The Huskies gained a season high 520 yards of total offense with 394 coming on the ground.
St. Cloud State recorded ten tackles for losses in the game.
Linebacker Adam Josephson led the Huskies with eight tackles.
Sterling Smith and Jeff Bias each recorded a quarterback sack in the game

Quarterback Ben Bucholz who began his collegiate athletic career as a member of the St. Cloud State basketball team, completed 19 of 28 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
Adam Connette caught a game high five passes for 45 yards and one touchdown
Marcus Cheatham had a game high 72 receiving yards, catching four passes and scoring one touchdown.
Three Golden Eagles reached double figures in tackles. Greg Lofquist led all players with 16 tackles. Robert Gausi had 13 stops and Tyler Hansen ten tackles.
