Huskies football gains 27-14 road win at Minot State

Minot, N.D. – St. Cloud State runningback Donte Starlin-Merriam rushed for a career high 123 yards and caught a touchdown pass to lead the Huskies to a 27-14 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division win over Minot State Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies evened their overall record to 5-5 and improved to 4-2 in the North. Minot State slipped to 1-9 overall and 1-5 in the North Division.
St. Cloud State will close out the 2014 season at home next Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. against the University of Mary.
Starlin-Merriam carried the ball 17 times for 123 yards with a long gain of 23 yards. He caught two passes for 56 yards with a long of 26 that scored the Huskies first touchdown of the game. Starlin-Merriam rushed for 85 yards last week and has 213 yards rushing with all but five yards coming in the last two games.

The Huskies scored 17 second quarter points on a 25-yard Eric Mielke field goal, the Starlin-Merriam touchdown reception and a seven yard run by quarterback Nate Meyer
St. Cloud State led 17-7 at half-time as the Marauders Zac Cunha completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Porter Sturm with 1:13 left in second quarter.
St. Cloud State closed out its scoring in the third quarter as Taylor Berger caught his fourth touchdown pass of the season on a 10-yard play and Mielke connected on a 26-yard field goal.
The Huskies gained 337 yards of total offense and the defense held Minot State to 21 rushing yards. The Marauders did 315 passing yards and finished the day with 336 yards of total offense.
Nate Meyer completed 15 of 24 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns. He has thrown two touchdown passes in five the Huskies last six games and thrown for over 200 yards in five straight.
Wide receiver Matt Hentges caught six passes for 88 yards to lead the Huskies in receiving.
Cornerback Jordan Sefon posted a team high six tackles.
Free safety Kyle Risinger collected his fourth interception of the season, a team high, and the eighth of his career in the second quarter. His INT put the Huskies on the Minot 24-yard line and four plays later Meyer scored to put the Huskies ahead 17-0.
Defensive lineman Bo Putrah had two quarterback sacks for the Huskies.
Minot State
Beavers quarterback Zac Cunha completed 20 of 38 passes for 315 yards and two touchdowns. Both of his touchdown passes were for 29-yards.
Leon La Deaux caught a game high seven passes for 142 yards with a long reception of 42 yards.
Porter Sturm and Ray Watkins each caught a touchdown pass. Sturm finished the game with five receptions for 87 yards.
Levi Freidt led the Beavers defense with 18 tackles and Thomas Bryson added 12 stops. Bryson had a game high three quarterback sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss.
