SCSU Women's Basketball Upsets #3 Northern State, 62-54

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team battle the undefeated #3 Northern State University this evening. The Huskies came out on top defeating Northern State with a final score of 62-54.
This marks the Huskies 8th win of the season. St. Cloud State improves to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the NSIC. Northern State University falls to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The Huskies trailed the Wolves by seven points at the end of the second half, 19-26. St. Cloud State struggled through the first half with Northern State's largest lead by 11 with 10 minutes to go. The Huskies shot 19% from the field making only 5 of 26.
St. Cloud State had an impressive second half. Kyli Van Klei (Stillwater) put the Huskies in the lead (29-28) making a shot from behind the arc with 16:17 left. Nicole Wittman (Hutchinson, Minn.) hit a 3 followed by a jumper by Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) with 12:10 left in the second. The Huskies battled through to the end in this close NSIC match-up. The largest lead by the Huskies was with 15 seconds left in the second where they led the Wolves by 10. There were five lead changes throughout the second half.
Three Huskies scored in the double digits this evening. Junior forward Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) led all players with 17 points. Petermann grabbed seven rebounds and shot 7 of 14 from the field.
St. Cloud State sophomore guard Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) knocked down 11 points for the Huskies. Nooker made 3 of 5 from the field and had a team-high four assists.
Kyli Van Klei (Stillwater, Minn.) finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Van Klei was 2 of 4 from behind the arc.
St. Cloud State shot 33% from the field and 83% from the line making 15 of 18.
Northern State University was led by Sadie Stotesbery with 14 points. Rachel Krogman recorded a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Wolves shot 39.6% from the field.
St. Cloud State will return to action on Dec. 20 as they travel to Minn., Duluth to take on University of Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs are coming off a loss against MSU Moorhead with a final score of 69-78. Minnesota Duluth falls to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the NSIC.
