Women's Basketball Wins Battle Against Minot State, 66-65

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team battled Minot State University this evening in Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies were able to come out on top, defeating the Beavers 66-65.
St. Cloud State improves to 15-10 overall and 11-10 in conference play. Minot State falls to 11-16 overall and 6-15 in the NSIC.
Sophomore guard Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) led the way with 20 points for the Huskies. Nooker grabbed eight rebounds, had two blocks and two steals.
Sophomore guard Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) finished with 13 points this evening. MacDonald made 5 of 13 from the field and recorded three assists.
Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) recorded eight points and eight rebounds. Petermann made four of ten from the field.
Alex Haley finished with a team-high 17 points for Minot State.
Minot State led for much of the first half but St. Cloud State ended up leading 31-28. The Huskies battled back and forth throughout the second half. Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay) would make a clutch three with 3:27 left to tie Minot (63-63). With under two minutes left Minot State's Alex Haley recorded a layup putting the Beavers up by one (65-64). St. Cloud State's Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul) would score with 41 seconds left on the clock to give the Huskies the win. St. Cloud State shot 48.2% from the field compared to Minot's 36.4%.
The Huskies forced Minot State into 17 turnovers this evening. St. Cloud State outrebounded the Beavers 40-34.
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow as they face the University of Mary at 4 p.m. U-Mary fell to the University of Minnesota, Duluth this evening with a final score of 40-73.
