Track and Field Finds Success in the 2015 Spring Season Opening Weekend

The St. Cloud State Track and Field team enjoyed success on March 28th and 29th in the 2015 Emporia State Spring Open and the Ashley Nally Heptathlon held at Northwest Missouri State.Â
At Emporia State, JoVonte Suber (So. St. Louis, Mo.) opened up his outdoor season with a first place finish in the men's 400 meter dash with the only run to break 49 seconds finishing with a time 48.97.Â
He carried his performance to the 4x400 relay, where Suber was joined by Isiah Pitchford (Fr. Waukesha, Wis.), Marcus Welk (Fr. Fargo, N.D.) and Tom Bates (Fr. Waverly, Iowa). They put up a time of 3:21:56 and finished in third place.Â
The men's team finished in 11th place with 16 total points at the meet.Â
On the women's side, Alicia Evans (Sr. Melrose, Minn.) found herself in seventh place in the 400 meter dash with a finishing time of 59.65.Â
In Missouri, Natalie Gottschalk (Fr. Waukesha, Wis.) and Laure Olson (Jr. Hawley, Minn.) competed in the Ashley Nally Heptathlon.Â
This event is composed of the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meter sprints, long jump, javelin throw, and the 800 meter run, and participants get points for each of their finishes in the events.Â
Gottschalk found success in all events and finished with a total of 4201 points and sixth place.Â
Next up for the Track and Field Team is the 2015 Jim Duncan Invitational on April 10th in Des Moines, Iowa
