SCSU Women's Basketball Gains 70-51 Win over U-Mary

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team matched up against the University of Mary this evening. The Huskies defeated the Marauders with a final score of 70-51.
St. Cloud State improves to 10-7 overall and 9-4 in the NSIC. The University of Mary drops to 10-11 overall and 4-9 in the conference.
After the first quarter of play the Huskies led 16-12 over the Marauders. St. Cloud State dished out six assists on their seven made field goals. The quarter saw four lead changes between the two teams as U-Mary held their largest lead at the 8:05 mark with a 6-2 lead over the Huskies. SCSU finished the second quarter with a 16-10 run to give the Huskies a 32-22 lead over the Marauders at halftime.
In the third quarter the Huskies outrebounded the Marauders 11-3. St. Cloud State finished the quarter shooting 50% from the field, while the University of Mary was held to 36.4%. In the final quarter of action St. Cloud State recorded their largest lead of the game at the 5:37 mark with a 66-40 lead.
Overall, the Huskies shot 36.9% from the field and 34.8% from behind the arc. The Marauders ended the game with a 30.8% field goal percentage and 22.2% from the three-point range. St. Cloud State forced 16 turnovers, while the Huskies turned the ball over 15 times. SCSU outrebounded U-Mary 44-35.
Junior forward Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led the Huskies with a team-high 17 points and 11 rebounds. LeCaptain also shot a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line.
Senior forward Kyli Van Klei (Stillwater, Minn.) finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Van Klei made four of six from the three-point range.
Junior guard Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Nooker also finished with a team-high nine assists and four steals.
Brittney Dietz led the University of Mary with 17 points.
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they take on Minot State University. The Beavers enter the contest 8-11 overall and 5-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Minot is coming off a loss against Minnesota Duluth (71-55).
