SCSU Women's Basketball Takes Down Minot State, 58-51

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team picked up their tenth conference win of the season as they defeated Minot State University, 58-51.
St. Cloud State improves to 11-7 overall and 10-4 in the NSIC. Minot State falls to 8-12 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
In the first quarter, the Beavers led 17-16 over the Huskies. Throughout the quarter there were four lead changes and two tied scores. Minot State outscored St. Cloud State in the second quarter 15-11 to give the Beavers a 32-27 lead at halftime. The Huskies shot 30.8% from the field in the first half, while the Beavers shot a 40.6 field-goal percentage.
In the third quarter, St. Cloud State led over Minot with a 14-7 run. Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma) led in the quarter with six points. In the final quarter of action the Huskies recorded their largest lead of the game at the 3:43 mark with a 50-43 lead.
Overall, the Huskies shot 34.3% (23-67) from the field and 26.3% (5-19) from the three-point range, while the Beavers finished the game with 34.4% field goal percentage and 20% from behind the arc. St. Cloud State turned the ball over 14 times, while Minot committed 12 turnovers. The Huskies grabbed 50 rebounds compared to the Beavers 40.
Three St. Cloud State players finished the game in double-digits.
Junior guard Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) tied her season-high with 23 points. Nooker grabbed nine rebounds three steals. Senior forward Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) recorded her fourth double-double of the season. LeCaptain added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) finished with 13 points. MacDonald made 3 of 11 from the three-point range.
Kari Clements led Minot State with 12 points and three steals.
St. Cloud State will return to action next weekend as they host Southwest Minnesota State University and the University of Sioux Falls. Game times are set for 6 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall. SMSU is currently 3-17 overall and 1-13 in the NSIC. Sioux Falls is 16-4 overall and 10-4 in the conference.
