St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team hosted Southwest Minnesota State University this evening. The Huskies were dominant with a 78-53 victory over the Mustangs.

St. Cloud State improves to 12-7 overall and 11-4 in the NSIC. Southwest Minnesota State falls to 3-18 overall and 1-14 in the conference.

SCSU set the tone early in the game as the Huskies went on 19-10 run in the first quarter. St. Cloud State continued their run as they outscored Southwest Minn. State 23-6 in the second quarter. At halftime, St. Cloud State led over SMSU, 42-16.

At the half, St. Cloud State shot 43.6% from the field, compared to SMSU's 26.1%. The Huskies were able to force 15 turnovers, leading to ten points off turnovers. Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led the Huskies with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

The third quarter was back and forth from both teams, ending 18-18 in the quarter. St. Cloud State held the lead with 60-34 heading into the final quarter. Lauren Novak (Eau Claire, Wis.) added eight points. Southwest Minn. State outscored the Huskies in the final quarter, 19-18. St. Cloud State finished the game shooting 42.9% from the field which included seven made three-pointers, while Southwest Minn. State ended the game shooting 34.5% from the field. The Huskies forced 23 turnovers, committing only 10.

Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led St. Cloud State with 17 points and 10 rebounds. This marks the fifth double-double of the season for LeCaptain. Lauren Novak (Eau Claire, Wis.) scored 13 points and tallied two steals. Novak made three of four from the three-point range. Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) added 10 points and finished perfect from the free throw line making four of four. Andrea Thomas (Mauston, Wis.) recorded nine points. Thomas led the Huskies with four assists and three steals.

St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow as they take on the University of Sioux Falls at 4 p.m. The Cougars are 17-4 overall and 11-4 in the NSIC.
