SCSU Women's Basketball Drops to USF, 80-68

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team matched-up against the University of Sioux Falls in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action. The Huskies fell to the Cougars 80-68 in final scoring.
With the loss, St. Cloud State falls to 12-8 overall and 11-5 in the NSIC. The University of Sioux Falls improves to 18-4 overall and 12-4 in the conference.
The Huskies largest lead came in the first quarter at the 7:21 mark as they led 7-0. The Cougars answered back as they shot 62.5% from the three-point range, while SCSU shot 25% from behind the arc. Teagan Molden helped Sioux Falls take the lead as she made three of four from the three-point range, giving the Cougars a 20-17 lead at the end of the quarter.
At the half, St. Cloud State shot 46.4% (13-28) from the field and 25% (2-8) from behind the arc. The University of Sioux Falls outshot the Huskies as they recorded 61.5% (16-26) field goal percentage, including 50% (7-14) from three. Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) led SCSU at the break with eight points. Emma Konopasek (De Pere, Wis.) added seven points and four rebounds.
At the 5:38 mark in the third quarter the Cougars recorded their largest lead of the game over the Huskies, 55-35. St. Cloud State managed to outscore USF in the final quarter, 20-17. The Cougars went on to win the game, 80-68, over the Huskies.
Overall, St. Cloud State shot 49.1% from the field and 31.3% from behind the arc. On the boards, SCSU was outrebounded 34-26 and outscored in the paint by USF, 24-16. The Cougars scored 17 points off turnovers, while the Huskies finished with 11 points off turnovers.
Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay, Wis.) and Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led the Huskies with 14 points. LeCaptain recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Andrea Thomas (Mauston, Wis.) added 12 points and 4 assists. Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) led the Huskies with six assists.
St. Cloud State will return to action next weekend as they travel to Winona, Minn. and Fayette, Iowa. The Huskies will take on Winona State and Upper Iowa on Feb. 5 & 6. Winona is currently 21-2 overall and 14-2 in the conference. Upper Iowa stands at 5-16 overall and 4-11 in the NSIC.
