SCSU Women's Basketball Drops 75-61 Game Against Northern State

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team hosted Northern State University in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match-up this evening. The Huskies suffered a 75-61 loss against the Wolves.
St. Cloud State falls to 13-10 overall and 12-7 in the NSIC. Northern State improves to 18-6 overall and 14-5 in the conference.
In the first quarter, St. Cloud State trailed Northern State by two with a 25-23 score. Both teams held a 62.5% field-goal percentage. St. Cloud State recorded their largest lead of the evening at the 2:53 mark by three. There were a total of seven lead changes in the first quarter. Northern State held onto their lead in the second quarter, 20-16. At halftime the Wolves led 45-39 over SCSU.
St. Cloud State finished the first half with a 57.7% field goal percentage, while Northern State shot 63.3% from the field. Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led the Huskies with 10 points. Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) added nine points and dished out three assists.
In the third quarter the Wolves reached their first double-digit lead in the game over the Huskies. Northern State shot 53.8% from the field, including four made three pointers. After three quarters, the Wolves led 64-51.
In the final quarter of play, St. Cloud State was unable to cut the Wolves lead down to single digits. Northern State outrebounded SCSU, 31-22. The Wolves also outscored the Huskies, 24-12, in the paint. Northern State recorded their largest lead at the 8:40 mark in the final quarter by 17 points.
Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) and Emma Konopasek (De Pere, Wis.) led the Huskies with 14 points each. MacDonald made four of ten from the three-point range. This marks a season-high for Konopasek as she connected on six of eight from the field.
Andrea Thomas (Mauston, Wis.) added 13 points. Thomas made 5 of 11 from the field and dished out two assists.
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host Minnesota State University, Moorhead. The Dragons are currently 17-5 overall and 14-5 in the NSIC. MSU Moorhead is coming off a 76-56 win over the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Tomorrow will serve as senior night for the men's and women's basketball teams. The St. Cloud State women's basketball team will honor four members of their 2015-16 team: Lexy Petermann, Kyli Van Klei, Emma Konopasek, and Karissa LeCaptain.
