SCSU Women's Basketball Falls to MSU Moorhead, 74-50

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team played their final regular season home game this evening. The Huskies suffered a 74-50 defeat against Minnesota State University, Moorhead.
St. Cloud State falls to 13-11 overall and 12-8 in the NSIC. MSU Moorhead improves to 18-5 overall and 15-5 in the conference.
At halftime, St. Cloud State was down just one to MSU Moorhead, 29-28. The Huskies shot 34.3% from the field, while the Dragons connected on 43.3% of their shots. MSUM outrebounded SCSU, 23-20, in the first half. Senior forward Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led the Huskies with 12 points. Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) added 10.
In the third quarter, Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) hit two free throws off a technical foul, followed by a three-point shot from Whitney Olson (Blaine, Minn.). This marked the Huskies largest lead of the night (41-35). St. Cloud State was unable to hold onto their lead trailing the Dragons 48-45 at the end of the third.
The final quarter ended poorly for the Huskies as the Dragons outscored SCSU, 26-5. Minnesota State Moorhead hit 73.3% (11-15) of their shots, while the St. Cloud State connected on only 2 of 14.
Overall, SCSU finished with a 30.9% (21-68) field goal percentage, including 17.6% (3-17) from the three-point range. The Dragons connected on 50% of their shots. Throughout the game the score was tied 8 times and there were 11 lead changes. St.
Cloud State was outrebounded 48-31 and outscored in the paint 38-10.
Karissa LeCaptain (Algoma, Wis.) led the Huskies with 19 points and 8 rebounds. LeCaptain made 9 of 17 shots from the field. Betsy MacDonald (St. Paul, Minn.) finished with 12 points and three assists.
Jacky Volkert led the Dragons with 19 points. Savanna Handevidt recorded a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds for MSUM.
This evening served as senior night for the women's basketball team. The Huskies honored Lexy Petermann, Kyli Van Klei, Emma Konopasek, and Karissa LeCaptain for their contributions to the program.
St. Cloud State will return to action next weekend as they travel to Minot State and the University of Mary in their final weekend of regular season play. Minot State is currently 10-16 overall and 7-13 in the NSIC. The University of Mary currently stands 13-15 overall and 7-13 in conference play.
