St. Cloud State men's hockey to play Ferris State in NCAA tournament

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (31-8-1) will match up against Ferris State University (19-14-6) in the first round of the NCAA Division I West Region tournament on Saturday, March 26 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (CT).
The Huskies are the West Region's number one seed, while Ferris State is the region's number four seed. The other first round game at the Xcel Energy Center will feature #3 seed Boston University (21-12-5) and #2 seed University of Denver (23-9-6) at 5:30 p.m. on March 26. The championship game of the West Region will take place at 4 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, March 27 at the Xcel Energy Center.
In the East Region, number one seed Quinnipiac will face RIT and Yale will play UMass Lowell in Albany, N.Y., while number three seed North Dakota play Northeastern and Notre Dame will play Michigan at the Midwest Regional in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the Northeast Regional, #4 seed Providence will play Minnesota Duluth while Harvard and Boston College will be the other first round game in Worcester, Mass.
The Northeast Regional and Midwest Regional games will take place on Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26, while the East Regional games will take place on March 26-27.
SCSU's first round game vs. Ferris State will be available for viewing on ESPNNews. The championship game will be televised live on ESPNU. Former Husky Productions announcer and SCSU graduate and noted sports media personality Clay Matvick will provide play-by-play coverage for games at the West Regional.
This is SCSU's 12th NCAA tournament bid since 1989 and it is SCSU's fourth consecutive NCAA tournament bid since 2013. The Huskies have advancd to the regional championship game four times since 2010 and they won the NCAA Midwest Regional title in 2013 and also advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four in Pittsburgh that season. SCSU finished as the runner-up at the NCAA West Regional in 2014 and 2015.
The Huskies own a 5-12 overall record in NCAA tournament competition but SCSU has a 5-4 NCAA tournament record since 2010. In NCAA tournament gams played at the Xcel Energy Center, SCSU is 2-2. In 2010, SCSU posted a 4-3 double OT victory over Northern Michigan and lost a 5-3 match against Wisconsin in the West Region title game that season at the X. In 2014, the Huskies charted a 4-3 OT win over Notre Dame in the West Region and then lost a 4-0 match against Minnesota in the title game in St. Paul.
