
Huskies split doubleheader against Upper Iowa on Apr. 2

ST. CLOUD - The St. Cloud State University baseball team (19-7, 11-4 NSIC) completed its weekend of NSIC competition with a 3-0 victory and a 3-0 loss against Upper Iowa University (10-12, 6-8 NSIC) on Sunday, April 2 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn.
The day featured two standout pitching performances. In game one, St. Cloud State scored a 3-0 victory as Dominic Austing crafted a complete game five-hit shutout that included four strikeouts. In game two, UIU's Tyus Adkins posted a completed game two-hit shutout against SCSU that included 9.0 innings pitched and two strikeouts.
In the first contest, the Huskies set the tempo early with runs scored by Judd Davis and Cooper Maas in the first inning. The pair of SCSU runs were driven in by Mathew Meyer. SCSU's offense was completed in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Jackson Goplen, which was his fourth of the season. In the game, SCSU outhit the Peacocks 6-5.
In the nightcap, Upper Iowa scored one run in the fourth inning to break the 0-0 deadlock. In the fifth inning, UIU added two more runs to ice the game at 3-0. In the game, UIU outhit the Huskies 9-2 as Judd Davis and Mitch Mallek posted the hits in the game for SCSU. Of note, the loss snapped an eight-game win streak for the Huskies.
SCSU will continue its 2017 season with a home doubleheader on Wednesday, April 5 against Augustana University. The game at Joe Faber is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. Tickets for the game are available at the gate.
