ST. CLOUD, MINN. - The St. Cloud State women's hockey team is looking forward to being back on home ice this weekend in their first-ever game against RIT. The Huskies and Tigers will drop the puck in the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center Friday, October 5 at 6:07 p.m. and Saturday, October 6 at 3:07 p.m.
Scouting the Tigers: RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) comes off of a 4-28-3 season in 2017-18. To start their 2018-19 season the Tigers hosted the College of the Holy Cross last weekend and won 2-0 Sep. 28 and tied 1-1 Sep. 29. Goal scorers included senior Kendall Cornine, freshman Madison Itagaki, and sophomore Ellie Larson scored a power-play goal. Junior goaltender Terra Lanteigne stopped all 25 shots she faced in the 2-0 RIT win and stopped 24 shots in the 1-1 tie.
RIT had a new face on the bench in recently appointed Bruce B. Bates Women's Hockey Coach Chad Davis. He is the 14th coach in RIT's program history. Davis won 150 games over the last seven seasons at Division III Adrian College (2011-18). This weekend's series will mark the first time ever the two schools have played against each other.
The Huskies look to improve on their 0-2-0 start to the season. Last weekend, SCSU went through two heartbreaker 2-3 losses on the East Coast against the UCONN Huskies.
Salute to our Seniors: Saturday, October 6 will serve as St. Cloud State's 2018-19 Senior Night celebration. Five seniors have made their mark on the SCSU roster since the 2015-16 season. Julia Tylke is the Huskies' current leading scorer with 62 career points. Ivy Dynek has appeared in 60 games over four years and has four points. Suvi Ollikainen is a seasoned player on the ice for SCSU, suiting up for 102 games so far in her career. Jordan Stewart has played 73 games and notably had the game winning goal Sep. 29, 2016 against Merrimack, which was also her first collegiate goal.
