Kelly Laas Memorial Invite Schedule

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State softball team (5-1) hosts the 2018 Kelly Laas Memorial Invite this weekend at the Husky Dome from Feb. 22-25. The Huskies play a total of four games during the four days of the tournament starting on Friday morning, Feb. 23, with a 7 a.m. game against Missouri Western State (3-7). The program plays a second game later that morning at 9 a.m. against Nebraska Kearney (2-6). The team has an afternoon game against Southwest Baptist (1-7) on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 1:30 p.m. and wraps up the tournament with a single contest against Fort Hays State on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. There will be a total of 19 softball games played at the tournament with teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) participating.

Admission to watch this weekend's softball tournament at the Husky Dome is $10 daily. All children aged five and under are FREE. All SCSU students with a valid student ID are also FREE.

The Kelly Laas Memorial Invite carries a Coaches vs. Cancer theme in honor of former Husky player Kelly Laas who passed away in March of 2011 following a courageous battle against ovarian cancer. Laas, of Frankfort, Ill., began her softball career at St. Cloud State in 2008 and was an elementary education major. In her memory, St. Cloud State named the annual dome invite the Kelly Laas Memorial Invite beginning in the spring of 2012.

Missouri Western State went 1-3 last weekend against Minnesota Duluth and also lost to Minnesota State a pair of times in a quad home crossover that replaced the team playing in a tournament in Arkansas that was canceled due to weather.

Nebraska-Kearney went 1-2 at the FHSU Crossover Tournament before weather canceled the remaining games.
The team was only playing in the FHSU Crossover Tournament after their six games in the 8 – State Classic in Arkansas were canceled due to weather before the tournament even started.
The team started the season with a 1-4 record playing in the Desert Stinger Classic in Las Vegas.
The program is 1-2 against NSIC teams this season with a loss to the University of Mary during the first weekend and a split against Wayne State last weekend.
Cheyenne Hamilton leads the team's offense with her .400 batting average, 10 hits, three doubles, eight RBIs and 16 total bases.
Meg Householder has a pair of wins in the circle with 11 strikeouts in 12.1 innings worked.
The Huskies are 6-8 all-time against Nebraska-Kearney after defeating the Lopers by 9-1 and 7-4 scores last season on the first day of the 2017 Kelly Laas Memorial Invite and also losing to UNK by an 8-3 score at the Hy-Vee Classic.
Southwest Baptist lost all four of the team's games in Emporia, Kansas last weekend after the planned trip to the 8 – State Classic in Arkansas was canceled due to weather.

The program went 2-0 last week with a pair of non-conference wins over Bemidji State by 8-4 and 3-2 scores.
Sophomore Alexis Jacobs led the team last weekend with her .625 batting average and five hits.
Jacobs had the game winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to give SCSU the victory in the second game against the Beavers.
Sophomore Maya Keating was able to reach base safely five times with four hits and a walk.
Junior Morgan Emmans totaled a pair of doubles and three RBIs.
Sophomore Cassie Francesconi had the first two hits of her career plus knocked in three runs.
Freshman Kylie Thomsen went the distance in the first game against BSU with three strikeouts.
Junior Kate Kopeck earned the second game victory with a complete game five-hitter.
On the season, freshman Brooke Bowlin leads the team and ranks sixth in the conference with her .583 batting average.
She is also third in the conference with her .722 on-base percentage and is tied for the team lead and leads the conference with six walks.
Freshman Megan Conrads is also tied for the league lead with her six walks.
Keating is second on the team and eighth in the conference with her .558 batting average.
She is also second on the team and sixth in the league with her .619 on-base percentage.
Emmans leads the team and is 14th in the conference in RBIs per game (1.17).
She is also fifth in the league in home runs per game (0.33).
All four of Emmans hits have gone for extra bases this season (two doubles and two home runs).
Thomsen leads the team is placed seventh in the conference in ERA (2.21).
She also leads the team with a 3-0 record and 19 innings thrown.
