ST. CLOUD, Minn. – In the Huskies' third game of the Kelly Laas Memorial Invitational, the St. Cloud State softball team (8-1) defeated the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats (2-9) in an offensive battle in the Husky Dome on Saturday, Feb. 24.

The Huskies' bats were hot early after jumping out to a 3-1 lead through two innings. In the third and fourth innings, SBU would score eight runs and lead the Huskies 9-6 going into the fifth inning. St. Cloud State matched the Bearcats' five-spot in the fifth inning and took the 11-9 lead that would eventually hold true to solidify SCSU's third win of the weekend.

Morgan Emmans was 2-4 with 3 RBI's while Libby Bingham batted in 2 RBI's and was also 2-4 on the day. Both Emmans and Bingham's two hits were doubles. Megan Conrads, Allison Okeson and Kylie Thomsen each stole a base in Saturday's game as well. St. Cloud State out-lasted the Bearcats by maintaining a consistent approach at the plate that allowed the Huskies to draw six walks and 11 total hits in the game.

Kylie Thomsen improved to 6-0 on the year in her two-inning shutout appearance out of the bullpen. Kate Kopek started the game and went 2.2 innings before being relieved by freshman, Emma Murphy. Murphy went did not allow a run in her 2.1 innings of work.

SBU's Kaylee Schmidli recorded the loss for the Bearcats.

St. Cloud State will return to the Husky Dome tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 24) to finish the Kelly Laas Memorial Tournament in their last game of the weekend against the Fort Hays State Tigers.
