Huskies get conference win against MSU-Mankato

ST. CLOUD, MINN. – The St. Cloud State University Huskies women's hockey team (8-16-2, 3-12-0 WCHA) dug deep for a conference win against the Minnesota State University Mankato Mavericks (8-11-4, 3-10-2-1 WCHA) at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center Friday, Jan. 18.
Sophomore forward Laura Kluge scored her third goal of the year to put SCSU up 1-0 against the Mavericks at 8:53 of the first period. The Huskies would take that lead into two. Kluge was assisted by Kayla Friesen and Rachel Herzog.
MSU's Rebekah Kolstad, the team's second best point scorer, tied the game 1-1 at 16:29 of the second period.
St. Cloud State would add two more in the third period to secure the conference win. Julia Tylke, SCSU's current team point leader, scored less than five minutes into the third period to return SCSU to a one-goal lead.
To finish the game, Janna Haeg scored her third goal of the season for the Huskies on a power play, assisted by Hannah Potrykus and Kluge. SCSU ended the game with a 3-1 win.
St. Cloud State goaltender Emma Polusny stopped 29 shots in the game; the Maverick's Abigail Levy had 17 saves. Final shots on goal from today's game were SCSU 20, MSU 30. St. Cloud went 1-3 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.
The Huskies are on the road next weekend to take on No. 1 ranked Wisconsin in Madison, WI. Friday's game is at 7:07 p.m. and 6:07 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.
The team then returns home to the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center February 1 and 2 for a weekend series against Ohio State University.
