
St. Cloud State to play in WCHA first ever Minnesota Cup

LAST WEEK: The Huskies swept the Lindenwood University Lions at home in a pair of non-conference games before the end of the year. SCSU won 3-1 on Saturday, Dec. 29 and won 2-1 on Sunday, Dec. 30. St. Cloud moves to 7-15-1, 2-12-0 WCHA on the season. SCSU totaled 54 SOG in the series and the Huskies' goaltenders Janine Alder (Sunday-27) and Emma Polusny (Saturday-32) made 59 saves. St. Cloud went 1-5 on the power play and 5-6 on the penalty kill.
St. Cloud's Laura Kluge scored the Huskies first short-handed goal of the season on Sunday against the Lions, giving the Huskies the 1-0 lead going into the second period. Kluge is one of seven WCHA skaters that have posted one or more SHG's this season.
Shot Blockers: St. Cloud State ranks first in the nation for team saves with 853 this season. Goaltenders Emma Polusny (So.) and Janine Alder (Jr.) have split most of their time on the ice this season. Polusny is 4-6-0 and Alder is 3-9-1 on the season. Of note, Polusny had a career-high 48 save game on Saturday, Oct. 27 and Alder had another season-high game in saves against Wisconsin with 46 Dec. 8, 2018 (her previous two years of season-high save games have been vs. the Badgers).
Goaltender Janine Alder ranks seventh in the nation and second in the WCHA in save percentage. She has allowed 29 goals on 465 shots in 13 games played this season, averaging a .941 SV%. Alder also ranks sixth in WCHA GAA at 2.22.
Special Teams: The Huskies rank fourth in the WCHA conference on the power play (14.8%) going 8 for 54 – senior forward Hannah Potrykus is the Huskies' leading power play scorer with three goals this season.
