
Huskies Drop Second Game to No. 2 Minnesota

A scoreless second period let the Gophers keep their one goal lead over the Huskies. The Gophers poured 14 shots on Huskies' goaltender Janine Alder. The Huskies had one powerplay opportunity, but struggled to capitalize. The Gophers saw two powerplay opportunities, but the Huskies' fiercely killed off both penalties during the second period.
Just under two minutes into the third period, Dana Rasmussen notched an unassisted goal for the Huskies to tie the game. The Gophers reacted quickly and pulled ahead when Emily Brown scored her second goal of the game. Catie Skaja scored a third goal for the gophers at 12:05 into the third period, giving them a two goal lead over the Huskies. Around three minutes left in the game, the Huskies pulled their goalie to try and close the gap. The Gophers' Taylor Heise took advantage of the empty net, scoring a fourth goal. With 9.8 seconds left in the game, senior Abby Thiessen scored a second goal for the Huskies. The Gophers defeated the Huskies with a final score 4-2.
SCSU returns home this weekend for a pair of WCHA conference games against Minnesota State University-Mankato. The Huskies play October 25th and 26th (3:07/2:07pm) at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Skate with the Huskies event will take place Saturday, October 26 after the SCSU Men's Hockey game (6:07). This event is free to the public. Both Men's and Women's Ice Hockey players will be hosting this event.
