Former SCSU hockey player Matt Cullen plays in 1,500th NHL game

Former St. Cloud State University men's hockey player Matt Cullen (1995-97) recently played in his 1,500 NHL game. Cullen currently plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins and is just the second American born NHL player to play in 1,500 NHL games (behind Chris Chelios, who played in 1,651 games during his NHL career). He played in his 1,500th game on Tuesday, March 5 against Florida at the PPG Arena in Pittsburgh, Penn.
At SCSU, Cullen played for two seasons as a forward with the Huskies and tallied 86 points, 27 goals and 59 assists. After his collegiate career at SCSU, Cullen began his NHL playing days with the Anaheim Ducks in 1997. Over his NHL career, Cullen has played for Anaheim, Florida, Carolina, New York Rangers, Ottawa, Minnesota, Nashville and Pittsburgh. Cullen won Stanley Cups with Carolina in 2006 along with two Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 2016 and 2017.
