COLLEGEVILLE, MINN. - This weekend marked the official start of the St. Cloud State University track and field team's outdoor season. Two event groups traveled to St. John's University to compete in the CSB/STU Outdoor Meet. The student-athletes competed in the snow and still managed to start on a strong note with great opening marks.
Lauren Julian started of the day by competing in the hammer throw, obtaining a new personal record of 35.03M (114'11"), which is over twenty feet further than her mark from last year.
Freshman Dacoda Zimmerman competed in the shot put, where she obtained a mark of 12.59M (41'3.75") placing her second overall in the meet. She also made her college debut in discus throw where she threw a 30.75M (100'11") mark.
Next, Kallie Jo Klocke competed in the pole vault where she cleared a bar at 2.96M (9'8.5"). Her teammate Haley Kelvington not far behind with a jump of 2.81M (9'2.5).
Coming off of a year away from competing due to injury, Dominique Buechel competed in the discus throw, where she started the season off with a 42.00M (137'9") mark, placing her second. With this being her first meet back, being only four meters off her lifetime personal record was an strong accomplishment.
While weather conditions were less than ideal, the team came out ready to compete and represented St. Cloud State well. With hopes of better weather to come the whole team will be competing at both the Jim Click Combined Events and Hamline Invitational this upcoming week.
