ABERDEEN, S.D. – It was by no means ideal conditions, but St. Cloud State University track and field athletes Faith Lubner (Reedsville, Wis. / Reedsville) and Leighten Fischer (Iola, Wis. / Iola-Scandanavia) certainly made the best of their trip to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conferene (NSIC) Outdoor Multi Championships in Aberdeen, South Dakota. In fact, the two put together career weekends for the Huskies, as they both placed in the top-8 to earn points towards the team's overall score at the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Lubner led the way for St. Cloud State, as she earned All-Conference honors for the first time in her career. The sophomore finished in third place thanks to her 4598 point performance at the two day event, which took place from April 28-29 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Fischer was equally impressive, as she made the podium with her sixth place finish at the event.
Lubner got off to a hot start for the Huskies, as she ended the first day in fifth place with 2791 points. The sophomore earned her highest point total in the 100m hurdles, earning 929 points with her second place finish at 14.37 seconds.
Fischer was not far behind after day one, as she was in eighth with 2632 points. Like Lubner, Fischer's best event was the 100m hurdles, as she earned 799 points in the event.
The two made significant jumps in the standings on day two, as Lubner jumped from fifth to third and Fischer moved from eighth to sixth. Lubner's best event on day two was long jump, while Fischer excelled in the 800m dash.
Thanks to their strong performances, Lubner and Fischer earned nine points towards St. Cloud State's overall team score at the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will take place May 10-11 in Duluth, Minnesota. The Huskies will compete in one final meet this Saturday as they participate in the MSU Twilight in Mankato, Minnesota.
