The professional hockey world was introduced to a few new players over the past weekend as several former St. Cloud State University Huskies made their pro debuts. This group includes three former Huskies who played games in the NHL on April 6.
RYAN POEHLING - MONTREAL CANADIENS
In his first professional game after finishing the recent college season with the Huskies in 2018-19, Ryan Poehling enjoyed an epic evening by scoring a hat trick and the shootout game OT winner in Montreal's 6-5 decision over Toronto on April 6 in Montreal, Que.
Poehling scored his third goal of the game to tie it at 5-5 with 2:31 left in the third period and he also scored the winning goal in the shootout in the season finale for Montreal. Poehling also had goals at 11:41 of the first period and 2:56 of the second period in the victory. Of note, former SCSU goaltender Charlie Lindgren played in the nets for Montreal during the game.
Jimmy Schuldt, who is a Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalist for the Huskies in 2018-19, joined the pro ranks on April 6 with his NHL debut with the Vegas Golden Knights on April 6. In a 5-2 loss at the Los Angeles Kings, Schuldt got on the scoresheet for Vegas with the first assist on a goal by Valentin Zykov at 13:09 of the second period. This was Schuldt's first professional point.
BLAKE LIZOTTE - LOS ANGELES KINGS
In the same game as Schuldt on April 6, Blake Lizotte hit the ice for the Los Angeles Kings as the former Husky made his NHL debut. Lizotte saw 11:12 of ice time in the game and helped LA gain the 5-2 victory. He joined the Kings' roster, which also includes former SCSU forward Jonny Brodzinski. In the same game, former SCSU defenseman Ethan Prow also scored one goal and one assist in the game for the WBS Penguins.
