8/5/2021 10:00:00 AM | Men's Hockey, Women's Hockey
ST. CLOUD, MINN. - The calendar has officially turned to August, which means the St. Cloud State men's and women's hockey seasons are just around the corner. With opening weekend puck drop less than two months away, the Huskies announced their promotional schedules for the upcoming 2021-22 seasons.
Both the men's and women's hockey seasons feature an array of promotions throughout the 2021-22 season, including several giveaways and theme nights throughout the year. The promotional schedule will officially kick off on September 18 when St. Cloud State hosts its annual Puck Drop Breakfast at 10 a.m. at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. This event is exclusive for Huskies hockey season ticket holders, and fans can still buy season tickets for 2021-22 at www.scsutickets.com or by calling 1-877-SCSUTIX / 320-308-2137. Fans who purchase season tickets from now until August 15 will be entered to win a signed Washington Capitals jersey. Current season ticket holders can participate in the Huskies new referral program and receive a $100 reward for any referrals through the end of August.
Both St. Cloud State men's and women's hockey teams are coming off superb seasons. The women posted a record of 6-12-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play, winning three of their final four games of the 2020-21 season, including a series sweep of Bemidji State to close the year. First year netminder Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland) was named to the WCHA All-Rookie team at the conclusion of the regular season after she and fellow first year Emma Gentry (Alpena, Michigan) earned WCHA weekly honors multiple times throughout the 2020-21 season. Additionally, seniors Emma Polusny (Mound, Minnesota) and Kenzie Wylie (Ham Lake, Minnesota) announced their intent to use their extra season and return to the team in 2021-22.
The men's hockey team put together a historic season in 2020-21, making its first ever appearance in the NCAA Division I men's ice hockey national championship game in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2020-21, the Huskies posted a 20-11-0 overall record with a 15-9-0 conference record to finish second in the always rugged National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). From there, St. Cloud State advanced to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship game and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Northeast Regional, where the team beat Boston University and Boston College for the championship to advance to the Frozen Four for just the second time in program history. The Huskies played in the Division I National Championship game for the first time in school history and finished as the runner-up.
