Nine personal bests fall, Freed wins 3000 Meter as Huskies shine at Minnesota Icebreaker Invite

Greta Freed wins the 3000 Meter as SCSU establishes nine new personal bests
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – St. Cloud State Track & Field saw nine athletes record new personal bests while Greta Freed won the 3000 Meter at the Minnesota Icebreaker Invite on Friday at the Minnesota Fieldhouse. 11 Huskies enjoyed top-five finishes in their respective events to highlight an exceptional start to the 2022-23 Indoor campaign.
Katie Lavato started the day off strong in the short distance for the Huskies, setting a short-lived PR with a 8.03s qualifying time in the 60 Meter prelims then following with a 7.99s personal best for third in the Finals. She would place ninth in the 200 Meter with a personal-best 27.21s finish behind Brooklyn Brouse's PR of 26.94s for fifth. Shelby Romig took sixth in the 60 Meter Hurdles thanks to a 9.34s finish, then Brouse added another top-five finish by running a 59.81s 400 Meter for third.
In the middle distance, Mariana Guerra-Reese placed fourth in the 600 Meter with a 1:42.85 personal-best finish. Clara Welhouse (2:22.50) and Lauren Sertich (2:24.27) both PR'd in the 800 Meter to go 5-6-7 with Allie Butte (22:30.97) while Jaileen Medina joined the trio in the top 10 with a 2:44.86 finish.
Greta Freed's win in the 3000 Meter came with a 11:17.13 finish, leading a Huskies sweep of the top three as Cambrie Kowal set a PR at 11:24.18 for second and Erica Conrad took third with a 11:45.71 time.
Paola Brena and Julia Rowles began the field events with fourth and sixth place marks in the High Jump, clearing 1.61m and 1.56m respectively. Rowles added a 5.16m Indoor PR in the Long Jump to place sixth, joined by Ainhoa Toquero (4.92m) and Destiny Baughman (4.65m) in the top 10. Brena (10.83m) and Baughman (10.82m) went five-six in the Triple to finish out the day for the jumpers.
Dacoda Zimmerman represented SCSU in the throws, following a seventh place Shot Put mark by launching a 15.01m personal-best Weight Throw to take fifth.
