
Three SCSU Men’s Soccer Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

Caputo, De Baldo and Eklund cited by CSC for academic and athletics performance
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Three St. Cloud State Men's Soccer student-athletes have been named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Junior midfielder Philip Caputo (Eagan, Minn.), fifth-year senior goalkeeper Dylan De Baldo (Vancouver, Wash.) and junior defender Noah Eklund (Andover, Minn.) earned the honor for their success in the classroom and on the pitch.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced December 19 (men) and December 20 (women). Caputo carries a 3.81 cumulative grade point average with a management major. On the field he created a spark for the Huskies offense after coming back from injury and being inserted into the lineup in the team's fourth match. Once he returned, he started all 12 matches that he appeared in. He finished the season second on the team in points with six (one goal and four assists). He led the team in shots and shots on goal with 24 and eight respectively.
De Baldo has a 3.66 GPA with a marketing major. In his first season with the Huskies, he assumed the starting spot between the posts and was a tremendous vocal leader. He started every match this season playing all but 21 minutes (1349). On the season, he made 83 saves and has a save percentage of .755 and a goals against average of 1.80. He recorded five clean sheets. In his final collegiate game, he made a season-high 10 saves (plus one in the penalty shootout), faced a career-high 24 shots and tied his career-high for minutes in a game (110). He made the most saves in GLIAC games (53), held the second best save percentage in GLIAC games (.803), and was tied for the second most shutouts in GLIAC games (three).
Eklund has a 4.00 GPA with a construction management major. On the pitch, he was a staple on the backline as he started all 15 games for the Huskies, and logged a total of 1271 minutes. He played 90+ minutes in eight matches and in the final game of the season, he tied his career-high for minutes in a game by playing all 110.
2023 was St. Cloud State Soccer's most successful season to date. The Huskies finished with the best record in program history by points (15 – 3 wins, 6 ties, previous was 13 in each of the last two seasons – 4 wins/1 tie in 2021 and 3 wins/4 ties in 2022). SCSU's conference record of 3-3-4 this year is the new program-best mark, calculated by conference points (13 – 3 wins, 4 ties, previous was 9 in 2021 – 3 wins). SCSU finished fourth in the GLIAC standings – the best finish program history. 2023 the SCSU's current unbeaten streak of five matches is the longest in program history and will carry over to next season.
