Huskies drop fifth straight match
Chicago, IL. – St. Cloud State Men's Soccer (3-7-1, 1-5-0 GLIAC) dropped their fifth consecutive match as they were defeated 1-0 against Roosevelt Sunday afternoon. The Lakers created a counterattack in the 86th minute and capitalized on the opportunity to come away with the victory.
St. Cloud State opened up the game with some juice on both sides of the ball. The Huskies were able to work the ball into the Roosevelt zone and apply pressure on their backline defense. SCSU came away with four shots in the first half with two landing on goal. Defensively, the Huskies were strong in the backline as Roosevelt produced six shots with only one landing on goal. The game would be tied 0-0 headed into halftime.
The second half saw a similarly paced defensive half as neither team were able to break the tie. The Huskies made a late aggressive offensive push. They found themselves deep into Roosevelt territory on multiple occasions and a shot by Matt Greenland in the 79th minute missed just wide as SCSU was unable to take advantage of a great scoring chance. After another attacking chance by the Huskies, Roosevelt cleared the ball and pushed the tempo on a counterattack. Caco Fernandez worked his way down the field and found Fynn Mewes who broke the tie. The Huskies were unable to find the equalizer as they were defeated 1-0 against the Lakers.
