St. Cloud State Women’s Basketball Comeback Falls Short Against Michigan Tech

Draheim scores career-high 16 points as SCSU falls to MTU, 74-68
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (3-1, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) picked up its first loss of the season after a valiant comeback fell short against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Michigan Tech on Sunday afternoon in St. Cloud. Michigan Tech (4-2, 0-0 GLIAC) took down SCSU, 74-68 and got back in the win column after dropping a 69-59 result to Minnesota Duluth on Saturday afternoon.
Michigan Tech made 10-of-17 from the field and 6-of-9 from behind the three-point line and jumped out to a 27-13 lead after the first quarter. Alyssa Wypych was unconscious in the first 10 minutes of the – making all five of her three-point attempts. Sophomore guard Jada Eggebrecht (Phillips, Wis.) paced SCSU in the first quarter scoring seven points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field. SCSU outscored Michigan Tech 17-10 in the second period, cutting the deficit to seven at the break. Freshman forward Abigail O'Reilly (Elgin, Minn.) and senior forward Jasmine Litt (Pulaski, Wis.) scored eight (2-3 FG, 3-3 FT) and seven points (3-4 FG, 2-2 FT) respectively for St. Cloud State in the second quarter.
SCSU outscored Michigan Tech 16-10 in the third quarter to put another dent in the Michigan Tech lead. Senior guard Morgan Draheim (Hortonville, Wis.) contributed eight (3-3 FG, 2-2 3P) of SCSU's 16 points third quarter points, including a three-pointer with two seconds left in the quarter that brought SCSU to within one point heading into the final quarter.
Draheim opened the fourth quarter with a layup that gave St. Cloud State its second lead of the game and first since the 9:01 mark of the first quarter. MTU would take the lead back on the next possession and refuse to give it back for the remainder of the game. Michigan Tech made 8-of-13 shots from the field and 10-of-11 free throws in the fourth quarter, scoring 27 points to fend of SCSU's hopes of a comeback.
SCSU was led by Draheim, who scored all of her career-high 16 points in the second half (7-13 FG, 2-5 3P). Litt followed up her fantastic game yesterday with 15 points (5-8 FG, 5-7 FT). Eggebrecht scored 13 points to go along with five assists. O'Reilly scored a career-high eight points and senior forward Dru Henning (Mukwonago, Wis.) filled the stat sheet, contributing five points, five rebounds and five assists.

SCSU opens conference play with a pair of home games next weekend. On Friday, Dec. 1, the Huskies play Minnesota Crookston in their first NSIC game and on Saturday, Dec. 2, they will face off against Minot State. Friday's game is at 7:30 p.m. CT and Saturday's tilt will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. CT. Both games will be at Halenbeck Hall and be preceded by a men's game. Live stats will be provided by SCSU. - Eggebrecht has scored double-digit points in seven consecutive game dating back to last year, her freshman campaign. She had scored 10+ points in 26 of her 31 games as a Husky. She recorded a career-high four steals and set new season-highs in minutes (35), field goal attempts (15), three-point attempts (five) and assists (five). She tied her career-high with one block.
- O'Reilly set new career-highs in points (eight), minutes (seven), field goals made (three), field goals attempted (four), free throws made (two), free throws attempted (two) and rebounds (three).
- Henning recorded season-highs in minutes (31), rebounds (tie – five) and assists (five).
- Senior guard Makenna Vanzant (Farmington, Ark.) played a season-high 27 minutes and tied her career-high with one block.
- Sophomore guard Alyssa Stamer (Hutchinson, Minn.) tied career-bests with one free throw make and two free throw attempts.
- Freshman forward Paige Lambe (Verona, Wis.) tied her career-highs in minutes (13), free throws made (two) and assists (one).
