St. Cloud State Women’s Basketball Closes Out 2023 With Win

Sawicki’s double-double helps Huskies past Bemidji State, 60-52
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (7-3 overall, 4-2 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) closed out the 2023 section of its schedule with a win over Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud. SCSU outscored the Beavers in the three final quarters en route to a 60-52 victory in the team's last game before holiday break.
Bemidji State (2-7, 0-6 NSIC) took a 16-14 lead after the first quarter and held a lead as big as eight points. The Huskies would outscore the Beavers, 13-10 in the second quarter to take a one-point lead into the break. The Huskies stretched their lead to seven by the end of the third quarter and held on to win by eight in a defensive battle. The Huskies held a lead as large as 14 points in the final frame.

- Sophomore forward Ashley Sawicki (Waunakee, Wis.) recorded a double-double, tying a team-high 12 points and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. She shot 4-of-8 from the field and 4-of-6 from the line.
- Sophomore guard Jada Eggebrecht (Phillips, Wis.) tied a team-high, scoring 12 points. She also tallied a game-high four steals and three rebounds. She was 4-of-5 from the line.
- Freshman forward Paige Lambe (Verona, Wis.) posted eight points, four rebounds and a game-high four blocks. She shot 4-of-7 from the field.
- With the win, SCSU is now 51-18 all-time against Bemidji State
- SCSU led the game in field goal percentage (38.5%-35.7%), free throws (18-8), assists (13-10), blocks (8-2), points off turnovers (17-10) and bench points (17-10).
- Bemidji State led in three-point percentage (28.6%-14.3%), free throw percentage (72.7%-69.2%), three pointers (4-2), steals (9-6), points in the paint (30-28), second-chance points (12-6) and fast break points (4-3)
- The teams both made 20 field goals, grabbed 36 total rebounds (SCSU 11-25—36 – BSU 12-24—36).
- Sawicki recorded her second double-double of the season (also second of her career). She has scored in double digits in five games this season including the last two consecutive. She has grabbed double digit rebounds three times this season and 8+ rebounds five times.
- Eggebrecht set season highs in free throws made (four), free throws attempted (five) and blocks (one – tie) She tied her career-best, nabbing four steals. Broke her longest career streak of games (two) under 10 points scoring. She has scored double digit points in 30 of her 37 games as a Husky including 8 of 10 games this year.
- Lambe set new career-bests in field goals made (four – tie), field goals attempted (seven), rebounds (four – tie) and blocks (four). She has recorded 2+ blocks in 6 of 10 games this season.
- Senior guard Morgan Draheim (Hortonville, Wis.) scored eight points and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the line. Her four made free throws tied her season high. She has scored 8+ points in eight of 10 games this season.
- Senior forward Dru Henning (Mukwonago, Wis.) recorded six points, four assists and three rebounds. She tied her season high by recording one block. She has three games this season with 5+ points, 4+ assists and 3+ rebounds.
- Senior guard Tori Peschel (Sauk Centre, Minn.) tallied five points, four rebounds and four assists. She set season-highs in free throws made (three), free throws attempted (four) and assists (four - tie). She has three games of 3+ assists and 3+ rebounds.
